Salinity is a significant issue for many farmers today. Duncraig BRWA are forging links with farmers in the Wheatbelt to help address this problem. The project begun start by Cadets visiting the a farm farm in Tambellup in June 2007 to establish the exact nature of the problem and mark the affected regions. Suitable plant species will now be identified and site preparation requirements will be discussed with the farmers. Cadets will raise trees from seeds, and once they are ready will re visit the farms with a planting program.
The maps below show Tambellup in relationship to Perth.

2013 and this project has been running for 7 years, and we have raised approximately 15 000 trees from seed. Of these we estimate around 10 000 of them have survived and many of these are now well established. Trees planted back in 2008 are now around 3 metres in height and quite bushy. With the trees providing a wind break and the area being fenced off to keep animals out, other salt tolerant shrubs and plants have started to grow and the area is now a very different environment.
